The visit to San Francisco to have dinner & attend the play “GIrl From the North Country at the Golden Gate Theater started pleansantly enough driving along Lombard Street.

Chateau Bleu on Jackson & Gough Streets was built by the Rothschilds in the early 1900's. Now it's condos.

We parked in the Stockton/Sutter Garage. As we walked down O'Farrell Street & into the Tenderloin District, things began to change.

The neighborhood became sad & depressing.

We had reservations at Calibri, a Mexican restaurant we had eaten at years before. It was on Geary St. across the street from the Curran, where we used to go for ACT shows.
It was no longer there. We looked around for a bit then checked on the net. It had moved to the avenues.
This fellow, who had walked past us, commented that he liked the color combinations that we were wearing. From our left came the intoxicating, unmistakable scent of cannabis.
Near where Calibri used to be was Bota Tapas & Paella Bar in the...
Warwick Hotel. also on Geary Street.

The stage for "The Girl From the North Country."
The show took place in a boarding house in 1934 during the Great Depression.
All the songs were from Bob Dylan's songbook. He gave the playwright permission to use any song however he felt. They were appropriate to the play which made the usually uplifting "Forever Young," quite depressing. 2/3's of the songs we were unfamiliar with. "Like A Rolling Stone" knocked our socks off. We didn't know that "Went to See the Gypsy" was about Dylan going to visit Elvis Presley.
The singers were fantastic but the words hard to discern. Aaah, Bob D. The staging, choreography, costumes, book & sets were great.
