SQUABISCH BAKERY 1585 Solano Avenue BERKELEY, California 94707
HOURS : THURSDAY - SUNDAY from 12 pm NOON - until sold out.
This was our destination. In the December 21, 2021 issue of the San Francisco Chronicle we read about its January 1st, 2022 opening. It was worth the trip across the Richmond/San Rafael Bridge.
In the following photos, you might have to look carefully to find many things besides pretzels, like murals, graffiti, coffee, workers, a BART train, a tennis player, Chinese dolls, hidden sunflowers, a neon martini glass sign, intriguing & classic food packaging, a vintage Corningware coffee pot, powdered alum, winner winner chicken dinner, “Save the Blue Ocean” flavored KitKat bars & something for the wife.
There was a short line when we arrived at 11:45.
-
Inside, one of the day's specials was the Dark Chocolate & Toasted Coconut with 3 chunks of dark chocolate added to a classic pretzel with toasted coconut on top. Yum.

Nomi observed "You know the time we're living in when you mistake coffee filters for face masks."
-
-
The two bakers, behind the counter, were from Germany: Stuttgart & Berlin.
Who knew; "Oldest SINGER dealership in nation?"

We were inquiring about this clematis for our garden.
A living moveable wall.
We hope no one accidentally knocks out that bamboo stick.
-
Can you find the BART train?
Nomi thought that doing this at his age on a Sunday, he must own the building.
-
A spiffed up Albany median divider.
That's a lot of signage to take in...

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner.
Even our culinary academy trained pal didn't know how alum was used. Now we know: POWDERED ALUM (AMMONIUM), use? https://www.thoughtco.com/what-is-alum-608508
