Nomi had an appointment there with Deborah , her writing coach. I didn’t need a second invitation to join in for the ride over & have another chance to meander about the streets of Berkeley with my camera. I explored a different area of the North Shattuck neighborhood, aiming for the Berkeley Rose-Garden. Lhawang of TIBET ARTS said that if I walked up Rose Street, it would take me to the park; very appropriate. After a cafe macchiato at the Wrecking Ball Coffee Roasters, I began my climb, of over 400’. This morning saw an article in the S.F. Chronicle: “Rose Garden and Staircase Hike offer views and much more;” 3.9 mile loop, 1200-foot cumulative gain We’re ready to explore. Perfect for our anniversary on the 31st. The hike goes past the Brazilian Room in Tilden Park, where we were married 43 years ago. tinyurl.com/berkeleyrosegardenandstairways

In the flats, a block below Shattuck. There were a few of these beautifully maintained, large Victorians on large lots.

Look carefully, lots of neat things to find or read in this scene as well.

Gotta love the tip box.
As I ascended, the setting sun made the ginkgo trees look golden.

I had walked up an alley, to see if it was a short-cut into the Rose Garden. About half way up, I inquired & a fellow told me it was a blind alley. This huge house, with the blue Christmas tree was intriguing. The architecture was reminiscent of the 1960's.
This is the front, 1328 Arch Street c. 1998.
Also on Arch Street.
Homes on appropriately named Bay View Place, have some stunning views.
Also on Bay View Place.
I'm looking forward to returning here when the roses are in bloom.

I was fascinated by the Joseph Campbell quote on the gate: "The one question is whether you are going to say a hearty yes to your adventure." I was attempting to take a photo with the tower & quote in focus & good exposures when the gate opened. The owner told me he changed the quotes often & suggested that I walk around the corner onto Rose St. & look at the front of the house. I forgot to ask if his mother-in-law was confined to the tower.
