Another day in the park
I think it was the Fourth of July
People talking, really smiling
A man playing guitar
And singing for us all
Will you help him change the world
Can you dig it? (yes, I can)
And I've been waiting such a long time
For today”
From ‘Saturday not Sunday) In the Park by Chicago

On the drive to what we thought was going to be a glorious day on Governors Island.

Too bad the Brooklyn Marathon created horrendous traffic jams. It was stop & go traffic, enabling to take these photos of a wall around the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Three of my uncles worked on ships here during WW II.

Nate was driving & kept his cool. We decided to go to DUMBO. The kids were excited to go to Jane's Carousel in the adjacent Brooklyn Bridge Park.

DUMBO - Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass. Coming up soon, on Summertime Thursday nights, Nate's GALLERY (purchased by the DUMBO Business Improvement District), will be set up under this archway.

As it's been done in the past; Sept. 6, 2018.

This was a vacant lot when Nate had an art studio in DUMBO. See next photo. Jared Kushner was a partner in this huge develoopment until business problems forced him to back out.

View (c. July 2013), from Nate's former art studio, of the parking lot that is now filled by a huge building.

Sept. 2016. Nate's studio was in that tan bilding at the end of the parking lot. He would not be able to afford the rent now. It skyrocketed after he had left.

DUMBO from the Brooklyn Bridge Park. In front of the clock tower building, the big brown building is Empire Stores, a former warehouse complex now a food hall, shops & restaurants. We had lunch on the rooftop. “After a fire demolished the original structure, Empire Stores was rebuilt in the late 1860s & remains one of the last cargo warehouses lining the East River waterfront.”

Taken from atop the Empire State Bldg, 1978. The Manhattan Bridge is to the left, with DUMBO underneath. The area between it & the Brooklyn Bridge is the new Brooklyn Bridge Park. You can make out the clock tower building between the bridges & the Empire Stores in front of that building.

Nomi did spy Spike Lee when we were walking the streets of Brooklyn but this wasn't him.

This was a surprise!

Can you find the tall bike being ridden through the strolling crowds? This fellow ran the B'klyn Marathon this morning.

The Broooklyn Hts. Promenade, cantilevered over the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (BQE).

Below it the area has been revitalized for recreation.

Except for the noise & air pollution, I'd consider living here, with a deck & that view.

The piers have been tranformed into recreational uses for the people & salt marshes.
