The Gerstles were a wealthy Jewish family from the San Francisco Peninsula. They wanted to rent a holiday retreat for the family in Santa Cruz & were turned down because they were Jewish. So, in 1881 the families bought a 4.6-acre parcel in San Rafael...
... & built their own tennis court. In the 1950's the families donated the land to the City of San Rafael.
Still remaining, down the hill, is this circa 1883 home of some of the Gerstle children. It was the Gerstle Park Inn for a while.

Playing the ukulele with the Morristown Uke Jam forces me to find songs, for that Wednesday theme, learn & practice them. I even managed to fit in playing...
...the French Horn kazoo that I bought at the Kazoo Museum in Edin, N.Y.
Another informative, well-done, MASNYC (Municipal Art Society NYC) presentation; “City of Islands” on 1-17-21. Among other things we learned that Wards & Randall Islands were once separate. In 1936 they were artificially joined with fill from the Triborough Bridge construction project.
At another MAS class we learned that Queens & Nassau counties were one county until they split in about 1900.
In 2016 we visited the island by walking across the Wards Island Bridge, A.K.A. the 103rd Street Footbridge.

This San Rafael Class 1 ped./bike path was reminsicent of pathways in Holland. Here it parallels the SMART train tracks & hwy 101.

This was a wonderful course, through FujiFilm cameras. Josh was informative & validating.
A girl's fifth birthday, drive-by, party in the time of COVID 19. Josh had discussed photographing children. I did engage with the dad but had not asked permission, so I smudged the children's faces.
