It was so nice to be foot-loose and fancy-free in Brooklyn. Saturday evening we walked to 5th Ave. in Park Slope for dinner. I’ve always been drawn to architecture & architectural details. The Municipal Art Society (MAS) tours we’ve taken over the years, both virtual & in person, have made us even more observant & knowledgeable.
The next morning we had a brunch date with Elliot & Casey in Williamsburg at which time we would be picking up the KIA that we’d be driving the following day to Pennsylvania. Elliot suggested a walk that took us through different neighborhoods on the way to our meeting place at Edith’s. After brunch we left the KIA parked & walk down to the East River waterfront. When we returned to & got the KIA legally parked in Prospect Hts., we still had energy & a need to walk off brunch. Why not a walk to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden? Of course! It was still a gorgeous NYC Autumn day.

Nomi noted the brussel sprouts! A first in a Halloween tableau.

Looking down Flatbush Ave.
Looking down Flatbush Ave. The downtown Brooklyn scene is now dominated by the soon-to-open Brooklyn Tower. At 1,073′ with 93 floors, “The Brooklyn Tower is a supertall mixed-use, primarily residential skyscraper. Once in a generation, a building comes along that changes our perspective. A building that creates bold new horizons, promises new beginnings, and sets standards that others can only hope to follow. Rarer still is the opportunity to call this building home. This is The Brooklyn Tower.” Oy.

Park Chemists, "We are an independent, European-style, family-owned pharmacy, and boutique gift shop with two convenient locations in Brooklyn, New York."
Along 5th Ave. in Park Slope. The weather was pleasant enough to dine al fresco.

Fortunately, not needed.
The walk to Edith's. Check out those cans on the ledge. I couldn't figure out where those 4-pointed-star reflections came from.

Imagine falling out your front door into a subway entrance; not to mention the noise heard inside & shaking of your home.
“Romanesque Revival style building designed by the architect who worked for the Brooklyn Police Department around 1898.” There’s a similar one in Prospect Hts.
There's a move afoot to landmark this historic building. The NYPD is opposed as it will cramp their efforts to upgrade the building.
Note the air conditioners on the decks. I suppose that would make it quite noisy & uncomfortable to enjoy the deck.
Nomi thought that this was where the unbecoming hosiery that the orthodox Jewish women wore came from.

We came up against this "Wall" & entered the Chassidic neigborhood.
Can't have males & females too close together here.
-
For some reason all the windows & decks are covered like this.

A Toyota Minivan seems to be the chosen motor vehicle for these large families.

It's hard to believe that this porch is legal but there were many of them.

The left side white door is the woman's entrance to this synagogue.
Growing up in NYC we thought if one believed this button worked that you also believed in the tooth fairy.
The neighborhood changed to Hispanic.

The neighborhood demographic changed again.
Our server at Edith's posed for me.
"Edith’s is a next generation comfort food brand, anchored in tradition and history."
"... featuring modern twists on Jewish staples, as well as cocktails, a robust house-made deli counter, hard-to-find grocery items, and a coffee."
"Edith, the great-aunt of Edith’s founder, Elyssa, ran a Brooklyn deli back in the 50s. Elyssa combed through her age-old recipes and dug deep into hundreds of years of global Jewish cuisine for further inspiration."

I assume that soon "the guys" will be hanging out here.
The new generation hanging out.

We parked the KIA. Elliot suggested that we should walk down to the East River.
We had no idea of what we would find.

Mark Gibian's sculpture "Crescendo." "The four-ton, crescent-shaped stainless steel sculpture was hoisted over the East River & installed on the new 400-foot pier that's been constructed at Northside Piers. (May 2022) The sculpture is functional, providing shade (required by zoning) & including a bench."
Nomi noticed that brown chiurch with the grey spire. Its probably over one hundred years old.

194 Kent Ave. “Built in 1915 as a Grocery Trade, then later converted into a Bourbon distillery, Austin Nichols House has been expertly preserved and converted into a beacon of contemporary loft living.”
One view from those lofts.
Is this a Halloween costume or regular attire?
