Nomi had another appointment with Deborah ,her writing coach. I wanted to walk the hill over the Northbrae (Solano) Tunnel. Now I had the chance. I knew nothing about the walk nor the neighborhood. Here’s some notes gathered on the web, post walk: “Northbrae is an affluent neighborhood in Berkeley known for its hilly terrain. The built environment follows along the natural topography which includes trees, the existing outcropping of volcanic rock, rhyolite, & 136 stairways carved into the landscape. The central hub of Northbrae is the Fountain at the Circle. The water fountain (c. 1906 & redone & rededicated 1996), designed by John Galen Howard, the head architect of the University of California, is surrounded by a terracotta roundabout & a stairwell. Northbrae made it into the American Planning Association's list of Great Places in America in 2011.”

I had seen these steps many times as we drove & entered the Northbrae (Solano) Tunnel. I parked nearby & climbed up hoping that I'd somehow end up on Solano Ave. that is at the other end of the tunnel.
The steps ended at The Fountain At the Circle.
As I descended, I saw the c. 1910 Northbrae (Solano) Tunnel west entrance..

And yes, I ended up on Solano Ave., aiming for Peet's Coffee.

They had given her a wrong flavor so they just plopped the correct one on top. One happy ice cream lover.
I walked down an alley that looked intriguing.
Time to climb back in time to meet Naomi. I noticed these steps on the north side of the tunnel.

Then I noticed off to the left, a huge rock...
...Contra Costa Rock. I climbed the steps thinking it would take me over but it took me around the rock. It's a designated Berkeley city park.

Next, I had to find out what was this Indian Rock.

For those who have read "Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead: A Novel" by Olga Tokarczuk that's the SUV driven by the protaganist..

Lee Greenberg is responsible for most of the quirky outsider art pieces on his Greenbrae property, including a fountain made of leaking, twisted up pipes he calls, “Honey, call the plumber.”
“That’s not gonna find its way into the Louvre,” he said.
Greenberg has been adding statuary and offbeat creations, like a bizarrely decorated car he calls “Cyborg,” since he bought the property following the 1989 earthquake. The three homes he built onsite are filled with art taken with a huge grain of salt, like the two Wizard of Oz Tinmen standing guard in the front yard.
“I mean, this is a dead-end street next to the freeway that floods and has earthquakes. If not here, then where?” he joked.
