We encountered biting, frigid, cold weather that was tempered by visiting, with Elliot & Casey, many museums, restaurants, coffee shops, a Broadway show, a jazz performance, outdoor art, window shopping, sighting celebrities, noticing architecture & walking an average of 7 miles+/ day with a high of 9.9 miles.

We arrived on Valentine's Day.

Forest Hills H.S.seen from taxi driving on the Long Island Expressway en route to Manhattan.
Forest Hills H.S. some distinguished alumni: Emily & Howard Gannes, Paul Simon, Art Garfunkel, Jerry Springer, Michael Landon, Richard Berkof, Alice Bauer & Judy Feldman. I once lived up the block from the school.

We approached Manhattan around sunset. Note the $8.25 congestion pricing fee on the meter.

At first I thought we were back in Morocco & this was Berber.

Again. In this case I was intrigued by the windows.

270 Park Avenue is set to be the new state-of-the-art global headquarters for J. P. Morgan Chase. We’ve been watching it being built on our visits to Midtown Manhattan when we have stayed at the Hotel Elysée.

From the Madison Ave. side in May 2023.
The new building will house up to 14,000 employees!

Three models of stages of 270 Park Ave. are exhibited in “… ‘The Vertical City,’ a new exhibition of tall buildings by Norman Foster and Foster + Partners opened at the newly refurbished Transamerica Pyramid.” I was surprised to find this on an unplanned visit this week while in San Francisco.

Contractor elevators for 270 Park Ave. are reminiscent of Erector sets I built as a child.

One of our favorite restaurants in Midtown. Also, it’s a healthy 2+ mile walk each way from the Hotel Elysée.

Valentine's Day special, lobster pie.
The tables were about elbow to elbow, close enough together that we could overhear Nathan Lane & his husband discussing the theatre at the adjacent table.

The best profiteroles ever. Worth the walk in the frigid evening air.

There were cartoons on the walls up & down a narrow hallway. As we walked along one could hear folks chuckling.

“This scrapbook of work by Helen Hokinson is an example of the scrapbook practice of record keeping that The New Yorker staff began in 1925 at the start of the magazine.
The work of each artist was clipped from the magazine & pasted into books. The practice ended in around 2012."

I had no idea how many books were published by Mark Twain.

If my memory serves me correctly, this game didn’t sell well.
